Morph Jewellery

Resurrecting my jewellery practice

Back in 2021, I started making jewellery under the name of Morph Jewellery. This name was chosen with the idea of morphing old second hand materials into new redesigned pieces. I made lots of bits, an Instagram, and an Etsy shop to sell them, which all went well. However, I had to stop as it was taking up too much time that I needed to spend on my degree in graphic design, which, apart from the branding, jewellery making was not relevant for.
After finishing my degree and a year or so after, I picked up jewellery making again, restarted the social media and resurrected the shop. I tabled at an arts market, which was successful, and found my love for it all over again. However, life got busy and again it sunk back into the shadows.

Recently I've found myself called to it again, so I got it all out and had a look. With many pieces already made and in existence, I decided to renew the shop and share my creations. I feel inspired to make new pieces, however I feel more drawn to new ideas... This we will see about!

For now, I will show in this post all what I have dug up of Morph Jewellery. Unfortunately, most content was left on a laptop that broke, so I don't have everything that I have done over the years. This means I've lost things like the old branding, second wave branding, a typeface I made from wire and other visual experimentations with the materials. This is such a shame, but it happens. So here is what I have for now!

Current branding:

This is how the current branding looks, which I intend to continue using for now. I think it has a nice mix of handmade diy aesthetic, while looking pretty and presentable.

The jewellery:

Scans of the jewellery that were used for socials and Etsy selling platform. I changed to a white background as I wanted things to look a bit lighter.
All materials used for the jewellery are found second hand from online sites like Ebay and Vinted, charity shops or donated from people. I have also taken apart unwanted jewellery pieces that I've acquired in the same way, as well as clothing, such as a jumper with lots of chains woven in.

Pictures from Snail Art Market:

During 2022 I had a table at Snail Art Market in Leeds. These are photos of my table, with the jewellery, signage and business cards, and how products were packaged and presented for customers.

Old branding:

I no longer feel aligned with the aesthetic of this brand identity, however I do enjoy the typeface, which is unfortunately now gone!

Creative practice reflections

This has also made me reflect on my way of being a creative as a whole. Being multidisciplinary, different forms of practice eb and flow into my life. I've found it hard to allow and accept them as they come. I've wanted to reject, or seperate them in order for it all to make sense. It has been hard to see how they all form an identity. But I don't need to make sense of it, I just need to make it.
I liken it to moles tunneling away creating caves of creative pockets. They will come up and random hills will evident their existence.
It feels like a bit of a wild way of working, and I'm learning to welcome all elements as they present. And hopefully, the more I accept this, the more they might mix and new ideas will occur.
