Inspiration log: Motto Distribution
Motto Distribution
"Motto was started by Alexis Zavialoff around 2007, initiated as a distribution company for Switzerland that specialised in magazines and fanzines. An interest in books and self-published items came naturally and this now constitutes a major part of Motto’s focus.""Motto’s location in Berlin, an old frame factory surrounded by a courtyard, regularly functions as a space for book and magazine presentations, as well as special evenings dedicated to a programme of exhibitions, talks, and screenings."

Psychological Atlas, David Katz
Publisher: Ningen Paper Press
First published in 1948 and can be found here.
"Psychological Atlas is a remarkable collection created by German psychologist David Katz, who wanted to spark curiosity and excitement for the study of psychology. Rather than writing alone, he assembled 396 images - an attempt to chart his research not as a book, but as a visual journey. Inside are vivid illustrations of color illusions, graphs tracing the paths of memory and learning, photographs of the tools and volunteers that shaped early psychology, and spare diagrams distilling intricate mental processes. "
"The atlas has long served as an essential tool for engaging students across scientific disciplines; geography, zoology, botany, anatomy, art history, all rely on visual materials to illuminate complex ideas. Yet no one had gathered the fascinating imagery of psychology into a single volume. Psychological Atlas represents the first attempt to organize such a collection, filling a genuine need in psychological education. The book aims to spark curiosity rather than contribute to academic research. Its purpose is simple: to awaken a passion for studying the mind."

La Bible Populaire, Thibault Tourmente
4 zines in a cellophane bag.
Description of artists work from Yogurt Magazine article; "Thibault Tourmente collects images that he cuts into books found, gleaned, recovered. This research is not so methodical as it is compulsive. The artist then arranges them on boards that follow one another like a stream of new images, fragmented by the multitude that compose them. Decontextualized from their original support and arranged among them in a random way, their profusion offers the possibility of a subjective interpretation, as much by the memory as by the sensitivity of each one. Despite the hazardous nature of the artist’s approach, the constancy of the format and the chromatic rigor generate a gesture close to the automatism of a mechanical system."

Kikuchi Yoshihiro 菊地良博 – -1/XXX!, Kikuchi Yoshihiro 菊地良博
Publisher: Yoshihiro Kikuchi Editions
"Between 2011 and 2020, Kikuchi meticulously deconstructed some old Japanese erotic novels, illegally distributed around World War II era, shuffling every minimum textual element. After that, he translated the entirety into Braille. This book reproduces the Braille as black-and-white ‘printed’ figures spanning 339 pages. The consecutive figures of the Braille in the book can also represent an extreme form of concrete poetry.
This volume serves as a conceptual art object within the minimalist aesthetic. "
"Zine is a typeface specimen and also license to use the font.
